56.

The Romano mansion was unusually quiet that evening. its a day before Donato birthday but there is No loud voices echoed through the grand hallways. No decorators rushed around with flowers and lights. No workers carried expensive arrangements through the entrance Everything felt calm... almost ordinary.

But only the Romanos knew that silence itself was the biggest sign that something important was coming. Tomorrow was Donato Romano's birthday. And like every Romano event, it would not be celebrated inside the mansion. Never.

The Romanos were not ordinary businessmen. They ruled a world where enemies smiled in public while planning bloodshed in shadows. One mistake, one weak security point, one outsider entering their personal space-and disaster could happen. That was why no grand function was ever held inside the Romano home. Their mansion was sacred territory. A place reserved only for family, trusted friends, and relatives.

No outsiders. No risks.

The birthday celebration had already been shifted to one of the Romano private properties on the outskirts of the city-a luxurious estate hidden far from public eyes, protected with layered security, armed guards, surveillance systems, and private checkpoints. Only selected business families, close allies, relatives, and trusted guests were invited. No media. No public attention. No unnecessary crowd.

A controlled celebration. A Romano celebration.

But despite all the planning for tomorrow evening, something else entirely occupied Donato Romano's mind today. Because for the first time in years... the dangerous mafia heir was more excited about giving a gift than receiving one.

It had started almost a week ago. Purely by accident.

He still remembered how he had casually overheard Krish complaining dramatically during kiara sofia elana and krish bikering, about how his sister could spend hours obsessing over one specific thing she loved. Donato had listened quietly at first, uninterested, until Krish unknowingly revealed details that caught his attention instantly.

And after that? Donato Romano investigated like a man preparing for war. Only this war involved making his wife smile. Since then, he had been secretly arranging everything himself without telling anyone-not even Kiara. And finally...Today was the delivery day.

Back at the Romano company headquarters, evening sunlight filtered through the giant glass windows while employees slowly wrapped up their work. Kiara remained busy inside her office, checking final documents for tomorrow's schedule, completely unaware that her husband had mysteriously disappeared almost an hour ago.

He had left suddenly after receiving a call. "I have some work," he had told her casually while fixing his cufflinks.

Kiara had looked up suspiciously from her laptop. "What work?"

"Secret work."

She narrowed her eyes immediately. "That sounds illegal."

Donato had laughed softly at that before leaning down to kiss her forehead. "Driver will take you home, sweetheart. Don't wait for me." And then he left before she could ask more questions. Now-here he is Outside the Romano mansion,

Several black luxury vehicles were parked near the entrance while Romano guards carefully unloaded something enormous from a secured transport truck. Their movements were precise, cautious, almost protective, as if they were handling something priceless. Orders were exchanged quietly through earpieces while a few men arranged soft golden lights around the garden area. Others adjusted decorations, making sure every angle looked perfect.

At the very center of it all stood a massive object completely hidden beneath a black silk cloth. No one could tell what it was. And that was exactly how Donato wanted it.

He stood a few feet away with both hands inside his pockets, watching everything carefully like a perfectionist preparing the final step of an important mission. The cold evening breeze moved his dark hair slightly while his sharp eyes inspected every detail.

"Careful with that side," he warned one of the guards calmly.

"Yes, sir."

Another guard approached him. "Sir, the car has left the company building."

A slow smirk appeared on Donato's lips. "She's coming."
______

Meanwhile-otherside the city, Kiara finally stepped out of her office cabin after finishing the last of her work. She looked tired but calm, adjusting the sleeves of her shirt while checking something quickly on her phone.

The moment she opened the office door, she found the Romano driver already standing respectfully outside. "Good evening, ma'am."

Kiara smiled softly. "You came early today."

" Boss instructed me to bring you home safely."

A small warmth spread through her chest hearing that. Even in the middle of chaos, Donato never forgot her. She nodded lightly before following the driver downstairs toward the private parking area. The black luxury car was already waiting for her. Before sitting inside, she noticed the driver making a quick phone call.

"We're on the way," he informed someone quietly. Kiara did not pay much attention to it. She simply assumed it was security protocol.

The drive home remained peaceful. The city lights blurred beautifully outside the window while soft music played faintly inside the car. Kiara leaned her head against the seat, exhausted after the long day, but somewhere deep inside her mind, she kept wondering about Donato.

Important secret work. Usually, whenever he used those words, it meant mafia business. And mafia business meant danger. Which also meant he would probably return late at night like always. So she never expected him to already be home.

Nearly twenty minutes later, the car finally entered the massive gates of the Romano mansion. The moment the vehicle stopped, the guards immediately opened the door for her. Kiara stepped out-And froze.

Because standing right there in front of the mansion, under the warm garden lights, was Donato himself. Waiting for her. For a second, she genuinely forgot to breathe.

He looked devastatingly handsome in his black shirt with sleeves rolled slightly upward, his expensive watch glinting beneath the lights while the evening wind moved softly around him. But more than that...

he was smiling at her. Not the cold business smile. Not the dangerous Romano smirk. A soft one. A husband waiting for his wife. Kiara blinked slowly, still surprised. "Y-you are here..."

Donato walked toward her without answering immediately. The moment he reached her, he wrapped one arm around her waist and pulled her close against him naturally, like he belonged there. "Welcome home, wifey," he whispered near her ear.

A visible shiver ran through her body instantly. His deep voice this close always affected her. Kiara looked up at him, still confused. "You told me you had important work."

"Hmm," he replied simply, completely unbothered.

Her brows furrowed slightly. "Then why are you here already? I thought you would come home late."

Donato chuckled softly at her expression before brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear.

"What?" she asked suspiciously.

"Nothing," he murmured, clearly enjoying her confusion. Then his eyes darkened slightly with excitement. "Go freshen up and come back outside," he said. "I have a surprise for you."

Kiara blinked. "Surprise?"

"Yes."

A small laugh escaped her lips in disbelief. "Ro, tomorrow is your birthday, not mine. I'm supposed to surprise you."

Donato smirked slowly. "It doesn't matter whose birthday it is," he said calmly. "I've been planning this for a week already. It's just coincidence that it got delivered today before my birthday."

Kiara stared at him curiously now. "A whole week?" she repeated.

"Hmm."

"What exactly did you buy?"

"That," he said smoothly while guiding her toward the mansion entrance, "is classified information."

She laughed softly. "You sound like a mafia boss again."

"I am a mafia boss."

"Unfortunately."

He gasped dramatically. "Wow. Your husband works so hard for you and this is how you treat him?"

Kiara smiled, finally relaxing completely after the long day. "Then maybe my husband should stop acting mysterious all the time."

Donato leaned closer suddenly until their faces were only inches apart. "But then how will I surprise my wife properly?" Her heartbeat betrayed her immediately. And Donato noticed. Of course he did. A satisfied smile touched his lips before he kissed her forehead gently. "Now go," he whispered softly. "And come back quickly. I'm dying to see your reaction."
__

Nearly thirty minutes later, the grand staircase of the Romano mansion finally echoed with soft footsteps.

Donato who had been standing near the garden entrance while pretending to check arrangements with the guards, unconsciously lifted his gaze toward the sound. And then he saw her. For a moment, everything around him blurred.

The guards moving around, the evening breeze, the lights decorating the garden, even the surprise he had spent an entire week planning-all of it disappeared from his focus the second Kiara Romano stepped in garden.

She had changed out of her office clothes into a soft comfortable gown that reached slightly below her knees. The fabric moved delicately around her legs with every step she took. Simple flat sandals adorned her feet, and unlike her usual business appearance, tonight she wore almost no jewelry except a delicate bracelet and tiny earrings.

Minimal makeup. Soft lips. Loose hair falling naturally around her shoulders. And those warm brown eyes...God. Those eyes looked almost golden beneath the evening lights surrounding the mansion. Donato simply stood there staring at her silently. Memorizing her.

There was something about moments like this that always destroyed him in the most beautiful way possible. During office hours, Kiara carried herself like a powerful businesswoman - confident, sharp, elegant, untouchable.

But here...At home...She transformed into something softer. Warmer. Not the intimidating Mrs. Romano. Just his wife. And somehow that version of her affected him even more. His chest tightened strangely watching her coming while trying to fix the sleeve of her gown absentmindedly. She looked so comfortable, so natural, so effortlessly beautiful that it almost felt unfair to the rest of the world.

Kiara noticed his intense stare halfway down the garden and slowed slightly. "What?" she asked with a small shy smile. Donato did not answer immediately. He was still looking at her as if his mind had stopped functioning. Kiara reached the last step and tilted her head slightly. "Ro?"

He finally exhaled slowly. "Do you even realize," he murmured quietly, "what you do to me?" A faint blush spread across her cheeks instantly. Donato walked toward her slowly, his gaze never leaving her face. The closer he came, the softer his expression became, almost dangerous in its intensity.

"You were looking like a powerful CEO a while ago," he said quietly while stopping right in front of her. "And now..."His fingers brushed softly against the fabric near her waist. "You look like this."

Kiara looked down at herself innocently. "Like what?"

"Like home."

Her breath hitched softly. Donato smiled faintly at her reaction before gently tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "I swear," he whispered, almost to himself, "sometimes I still can't believe you're actually my wife."

Kiara's eyes softened immediately. "And sometimes," she replied quietly, "I still can't believe a mafia boss is this dramatic."

A low chuckle escaped him. "Only for you."

The golden garden lights reflected beautifully in her brown eyes as she looked up at him, and Donato genuinely felt ruined. Because no matter how many times he saw her...No matter how many mornings he woke beside her...No matter how many nights he held her close...He still reacted like a man hopelessly seeing the love of his life for the first time.

Donato go behind her and gently placed his large hand over Kiara's eyes, she instantly grabbed his wrist with both hands. "Ro," she complained softly while trying not to laugh, "what are you doing?"

A deep chuckle escaped him close to her ear. "Just trust me, baby," he whispered. The warmth of his breath against her skin sent a small shiver down her spine.

Kiara could barely see anything except darkness behind his palm as Donato slowly guided her forward. She walked carefully beside him, her hands lightly gripping his arm for balance while curiosity burned inside her. "Ro, if you make me trip and fall, I swear-"

"You talk too much," he interrupted teasingly.

"And you are suspiciously happy today."

"That's because I know something you don't."

She narrowed her eyes even though he could not see it. "I don't like your mysterious behavior."

"That's unfortunate," he murmured dramatically. "Because your husband worked very hard for this mysterious behavior."

Kiara rolled her eyes with a smile. As they reached the decorated area of the garden, soft golden lights glowed around them. A black silk cloth covered something large in the center while guards quietly stood nearby waiting for Donato's signal.

Donato stopped behind her and slowly leaned closer. "Ready?"

Kiara nodded impatiently. "Yes!"

Donato smirked and gestured toward the guards. The cloth was instantly pulled away. At the same moment, Donato slowly removed his hand from her eyes.

"One..."
"Two..."
"Three..."

He remove his hand from her eyes her blurry vision slowly adjusted. The shape became clearer. And then she saw it. A matte black Mahindra Thar standing proudly beneath the golden lights. For one entire second-Kiara completely froze. Then her eyes widened so much that Donato almost laughed. A loud gasp escaped her lips.

"Oh my God..." She blinked once. Then twice. And suddenly she literally jumped in excitement. "Oh my God! Oh my God- MY BABY THARRRR!"

Before Donato could react, she ran straight toward the vehicle like an excited child finding her most precious treasure after years. Donato stood there watching her with helpless affection.

Kiara touched the car carefully with trembling fingers, moving around it with pure disbelief written all over her face. Her eyes sparkled so brightly that Donato genuinely felt the entire week of planning had been worth it.

"My baby..." she whispered emotionally while touching the hood. She looked completely stunned. Like she still could not believe it was real.

Donato slowly walked closer and leaned casually against the side of the vehicle, crossing his arms while admiring her happiness more than the gift itself. "So..." he drawled softly. "Did you like the surprise, darling?"

Kiara abruptly turned toward him. And the next second she literally threw herself into his arms. Donato staggered slightly but immediately caught her securely while laughing under his breath. Like hell Ro "I LOVE IT!" she exclaimed breathlessly. "Oh my God, Ro, I can't believe I'm seeing my baby Thar here!"

The sheer happiness in her voice melted something deep inside him. He wrapped his arms tightly around her waist and kissed her hair softly. "I'm glad you like it, sweetheart," he murmured. "But... I should apologize for one thing."

Kiara immediately pulled back from the hug and looked at him suspiciously. "Huh? What do you mean?"

Donato gently held her hand and guided her toward the driver's side. "You see," he explained patiently, "Italy uses left-hand drive systems. Your Thar was right-hand drive." Realization slowly crossed her face. "So," he continued, "with Arav's help, I imported your car here and had the entire system modified according to Italian roads."

Kiara stared at him silently for a moment. Then suddenly everything clicked in her mind. "Ohhh..." she breathed. "That's why you said you were planning this for weeks..." She pointed accusingly toward him. "And that's why Arav bhai has been teasing me for days saying he sold my baby Thar!"

Donato chuckled shamelessly. "Well, technically he helped me steal it."

Kiara laughed loudly before turning toward the car again with emotional eyes. "You... you really did all this for me?"

Donato looked at her softly. "There's nothing I wouldn't do for you." Her expression instantly melted again. But then Donato suddenly frowned slightly. "You don't mind that I changed the system?" he asked carefully. "I was worried you might get upset because it was your first car."

Kiara looked at him like he had said something ridiculous. "Why would I be upset, Ro?" she asked softly. Then her eyes slowly drifted toward the Thar again. "You don't understand what this means to me." Her fingers gently brushed over the vehicle lovingly. "I missed this car so much."

Donato quietly listened. A soft emotional smile appeared on her face as memories filled her eyes. "This was my first car," she whispered. "My own car. I bought it with my own money." Donato's gaze softened deeply. "I earned during internships, and some of my savings ..." she continued excitedly. "And for this car, I even fought with Dadi sa for the first time in my life."

Donato raised an eyebrow in amusement. "You fought with your grandmother for a Thar?"

"She wanted me to buy some elegant luxury car," the one that girls used" Kiara complained dramatically. "But I wanted this one."

"And you won?"

"Obviously."

Donato laughed quietly. Kiara suddenly looked at him again, emotion shining in her eyes. "You brought a piece of my home here for me." That sentence hit him harder than anything else. For a moment, Donato simply stared at her silently. Then he slowly cupped her face. "No, sweetheart," he whispered softly. "You are my home."

And just like that-Kiara's eyes filled again.

"Let's go on a ride," Donato Romano offered casually while twirling the keys of his car around his finger. "I'll drive mine. You drive your baby."

The offer alone was enough to make Kiara's entire face brighten like a child being handed the world. Her eyes widened instantly. "Really?" she asked so quickly that he almost laughed.

"Yes, really." That was all she needed.

Within seconds she hurried toward the black Mahindra Thar, excitement practically radiating from her body. Donato stood there for a moment simply watching her. The way she lovingly touched the steering wheel before sitting inside... the way her smile refused to leave her face...

God. He had never seen someone so happy over a car. And somehow that happiness became his favorite thing to watch. The engines roared to life almost together. The mansion gates slowly opened. Then both vehicles shot forward into the quiet evening roads. At first it was playful.

Sometimes Kiara sped ahead confidently like she owned the entire road while Donato followed behind with amusement shining in his eyes. Sometimes he overtook her purposely just to irritate her before slowing down again. Their headlights cut through the silent Italian roads while the cool evening wind surrounded them.

Kiara had rolled down her windows completely. Her brown hair danced wildly in the wind. One hand rested casually on the steering wheel while the other moved outside slightly, feeling the cold air with pure freedom on her face.

Donato watched all of it from behind. And smiled unconsciously. Then suddenly- The road curved. For one brief moment both their cars crossed from opposite directions. And Donato saw her clearly through the glass. Brown eyes. Wind-blown hair. And suddenly-he get dejavo

That same look. That same feeling. His breath caught. The memory hit him so hard that his grip on the steering wheel tightened instantly. India. The first day he landed there. A car crossing his path. A girl inside with hazel-brown eyes. Eyes that stayed in his mind even before he knew her name.

His heartbeat slowed. "Oh my God..." It was her. It had always been her. "How did I not realize..." he whispered to himself. Without wasting another second, Donato immediately signaled her to stop.

Kiara noticed instantly and slowed her Thar before parking at the side of the empty road. Donato stopped his own car opposite hers and stepped out quickly. Kiara came out too, still smiling brightly from the ride.

Her cheeks were slightly pink from excitement, hair messy because of the wind, eyes shining beautifully beneath the moonlight. "What happened, Ro?" she asked while laughing softly. "Why did you stop? This is amazing. Riding like this alone with you feels-"

"Kiara."

The seriousness in his voice made her pause. Donato stared at her for a long second before finally asking quietly, "Did you see me that day?"

She blinked in confusion. "What day?"

"The day I came to India," he explained slowly, unable to take his eyes off her. "Before the pooja at your house... two days before that. A car crossed mine on the road." His breathing deepened slightly. "There was a girl inside." its you isn't it?

Kiara's expression slowly changed. Then- A soft smile appeared on her lips. A smile so knowing that Donato immediately understood. She knew. She always knew.

Kiara stepped closer to him slowly until only inches remained between them. Then she gently placed both hands on his shoulders. "So finally," she whispered softly, "you remember that day."

Donato's eyes widened. "You knew that was me?"

"Of course I knew." Her fingers slowly traced beneath his eyes gently. "How could I ever forget these heavenly eyes?" The words hit him harder than expected. Kiara smiled faintly while looking directly into him. "First, I saw you the day our cars crossed paths."

Her fingers moved slowly across his jaw. "Second, I saw you during the pooja when you come our haveli." A small teasing smile appeared on her lips. "And third..."She leaned slightly closer. "We had a meeting for marriage."

Donato stared at her completely stunned. "You knew," he repeated almost breathlessly. "You already knew it was me... then why didn't you tell me?"

Kiara laughed softly. Not loudly. Just softly enough for the sound to melt into the silent road around them. "Because I wanted to see if fate would make you remember me on your own."

Donato swallowed hard. "And?"

She tilted her head slightly. "And what?"

"And if I never remembered?" For a moment Kiara simply looked at him quietly beneath the moonlight. Then she smiled again. "That was impossible." Her voice came out soft. Certain. "Because I remembered you after seeing you only once."

Those words wrapped around Donato's heart mercilessly. Kiara stepped even closer until their bodies almost touched. "You know what I remember most from that day?" she whispered. Donato shook his head slowly. "Your eyes."

She looked directly into them again. "They looked lonely." Something inside him stilled. "And dangerous," she added teasingly. "Very dangerous." That made him huff a laugh quietly. "But beautiful too its heaven for me."

Donato's hand slowly moved toward her waist instinctively. "And when your car crossed mine," she continued softly, "for some strange reason..." Her eyes softened."...I looked back."

Donato froze. Because he did too.

Kiara noticed the realization in his expression instantly and smiled wider. "You looked back too, didn't you?"

A slow smirk appeared on Donato's face. "Yes i did."

The wind blew softly around them. Silent road. Two cars. And two people realizing that maybe fate had started writing their story much earlier than they thought. unware that it's not the cross path where he saw her fisrt , its somewhere else." but becsue it's just for fletting second he saw her ,thats why his mind forget that moment. just like this car crossing moment."

____

The night had ended quietly. Not with chaos. Not with words. But with warmth.

After their long drive through the silent roads of Italy, Donato and Kiara returned home far later than they should have. Yet neither of them cared. The outside world had slowly disappeared the moment they entered their room.

Wrapped beneath heavy blankets, tangled together impossibly close, they spent the night in each other's arms. There was no rush between them. No need to speak much. Just soft touches. body resting together. Fingers tracing skin lazily in the darkness.

Kisses pressed between whispered smiles. They held each other like two people afraid the world would steal the moment away if they loosened their grip even slightly. Donato had fallen asleep with Kiara practically melted against his chest while his arm remained securely around her waist the entire night.

And for once-kiara slept peacefully. No migrain. No worries. No anger issues. No danger. Only him. Only her husband.
_____

The next morning arrived with an entirely different energy. Today was special. It was Donato Romano's birthday. The entire mansion was alive from early morning itself. Staff members rushed around , while family members discussed outfits, decorations, guests, security, food, and schedules all at once.

Although the celebration itself was being held at one of the Romano private properties later that evening, preparations inside the mansion still felt chaotic. Laughter echoed through the halls. Voices overlapped constantly.

Even the usually strict guards looked slightly more relaxed because the Romano family rarely celebrated together like this. By afternoon, everyone had gathered in the main sitting area after lunch. Some were discussing the evening party.

Some were choosing jewelry. Some were arguing over themes and colors. And some-Like albert romano-Were pretending to listen while being completely distracted.

Meanwhile, Donato and Kiara were not present in the mansion. They had gone personally to the celebration venue to inspect the final preparations before guests arrived. Everything seemed normal.

Until suddenly-The mansion doors opened. A woman entered quietly. For one second nobody reacted. Then- Every Romano froze. A collective gasp spread across the room. Eyes widened. Hands stopped midair. And before anyone could even process what they were seeing- The woman smiled softly.

"Nonna..."Her voice broke slightly. That was enough. kaamini Romano stood up so abruptly that her shawl almost slipped from her shoulders."My child..."Her voice trembled. The woman ran into her arms instantly.

Nonna hugged her tightly- desperately- like she was afraid she would disappear again if she let go. "How are you?" nonna whispered emotionally while cupping her face. "Didn't you miss me?"

The girl laughed through wet eyes. "I missed you so much, Nonna," she whispered back. "That's why I came back." Tears immediately filled several eyes in the room. One by one she hugged everyone.

Albert. Elana. aravi sogfia. elder mr romano, alessandro romano , eveyone." Even she hug elio tightly "you grow up little one she said" little Elio clung to her happily despite barely nowing her properly only hear from his family member about her." .

The entire mansion transformed emotionally within seconds. Because she was not just anyone. She was family. Someone they had lost years ago without truly losing. Someone whose absence had silently hurt all of them.

And now-She was standing here again. Alive. Smiling. Back home. The atmosphere became emotional and chaotic at once. Then- The mansion doors opened again.

This time it was Donato and Kiara. they entered hand in hand, still talking casually. Kiara was smiling at something Donato had whispered moments earlier while he looked unusually relaxed.

Neither of them noticed the silence immediately. Until Donato looked forward. And froze. Completely. The smile disappeared from his face instantly. His steps stopped. Even his grip around Kiara's hand loosened unconsciously.

Kiara frowned in confusion and followed his gaze toward the living room. Then she saw her. A woman standing near the couch. Beautiful. Familiar with everyone. Looking directly at Donato. And smiling emotionally.

Kiara looked back at her husband immediately. The color had drained from his face. His eyes looked almost disbelieving. Like he was staring at a ghost. Then slowly- Very slowly- A name escaped his lips.

"Rosie..."
